Can mattresses be recycled?

Yes, mattresses can be recycled! If you recycle your bed and mattress through Dreams, no part of your old bed will ever go to landfill. It’s all recycled or turned into renewable energy. Dreams have already recycled over 1.3 million mattresses, creating enough energy to power 1,200 houses for a year.

How can I recycle my old bed and mattress?

It’s really simple to recycle your old bed and mattress. Simply add recycling to your basket when you choose your new bed from Dreams. We can recycle all types of beds, sofa beds and mattresses, with prices starting from just £25.

We’ll send you a handy recycling bag to pop your old mattress in, so our team can take it away when they deliver your new bed. If you’re recycling a bed frame, you’ll just need to disassemble it before we collect.

Here’s an overview of our recycling service in three easy steps:

• Select recycling at check out, choosing which product you’d like recycled.
• Put your old mattress in the recycling bag you’ll be sent, or disassemble your bed for collection.
• Sit back and wait for it to be collected!

If you’ve added Room of Choice delivery, we’ll collect your old bed or mattress from your chosen room. Otherwise, you’ll need to pop them by the door for collection.

What happens to my mattress after it's collected?

Firstly, your mattress will be separated into its component parts, so each element can be recycled individually. Springs might be made into other iron parts, for example, whereas foam and polyester are generally used for carpet underlay or pet beds. In most cases, your mattress cover will be converted into renewable energy, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
